When the Prince and Princess of Wales arrived at Centre Court for the men’s singles tennis final on July 12, they were greeted by a thunderous standing ovation. Accompanying them was 11-year-old Princess Charlotte.
Dressed in a cornflower blue frock featuring ruffled sleeves, the young royal accessorised her summer outfit with a nautical-themed piece from Accessorize by M&S. Royal observers quickly noted that this particular wristwear mirrored a deeply personal habit once practised by her late grandmother.
Following her 1981 wedding, Princess Diana began curating a special gold chain gifted by her husband. Over their initial decade of marriage, the then-Prince of Wales presented her with miniature trinkets to mark each anniversary. According to Tatler, these bespoke additions included a tiny replica of St Paul’s Cathedral to commemorate their wedding venue and ballet shoes acknowledging her lifelong passion for dance.
Other pieces featured a polo cap, a miniature pig and an apple representing New York City. The most cherished attachments were two simple letters, «W» and «H», symbolising her sons. Because it held such immense sentimental weight, Diana kept this specific jewellery largely out of the public eye.
Court-side style and continuing family traditions
The young princess appears to be carrying this custom forward. During the 2025 tennis championships, she sported a customisable Pandora chain adorned with a white heart, her emerald birthstone and a rose-gold Nala figure from «The Lion King».

Her recent fashion choices frequently reference her grandmother’s iconic wardrobe. At June’s Trooping the Colour parade, she matched her mother wearing a three-strand pearl piece. The older royal’s version was a Nigel Milne heirloom originally worn by Diana during a 1989 Hong Kong tour. Furthermore, during a televised Christmas piano performance last December, the 11-year-old wore a navy Boden sweater explicitly named «Diana» which featured a signature statement collar.
Alongside her daughter, Kate opted for a bespoke olive green Emilia Wickstead gown. Fashion blog What Kate Wore noted she paired the garment with Ralph Lauren heels and a DeMellier London handbag. She shielded herself from the summer sun using an LK Bennett straw hat previously seen at the 2022 tournament. Finishing the ensemble, she selected a Halcyon Days bangle and 18-karat yellow gold Van Cleef and Arpels earrings.
While Prince George joined his sister and parents in the VIP seating area, eight-year-old Prince Louis missed the weekend sporting event. However, his mother ensured he remained part of the conversation. Speaking to tournament volunteer Jenna Fontanilla, Kate shared that her youngest son harbours a strong desire to work on the grass courts. Fontanilla relayed to The Telegraph that the pair discussed the rigorous duties of the ball crews, with the future queen revealing that Louis dreams of becoming a ball boy himself one day.
