Following a seven-year run spanning three series and 26 episodes, the hit teen drama Euphoria has officially come to an end, Variety reports.

The programme’s creator, writer and director Sam Levinson broke the news during an appearance on the New York Times music podcast Popcast. Speaking with hosts Joe Coscarelli and Jon Caramanica, Levinson confirmed the conclusion of the series.

Consequently, the final episode of the third series, titled «In God We Trust», serves as the definitive end to the story. Fans can find comprehensive recaps alongside interviews with supporting cast member Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and guest star Colman Domingo online.

A long-awaited conclusion

This revelation will likely not shock dedicated viewers. Lead actress Zendaya previously hinted in interviews that she suspected the third outing would be their last.

Speculation about the drama’s demise has circulated for some time, particularly after a massive four-year gap between the second and third series. During this hiatus, Zendaya and numerous castmates transitioned into bona fide Hollywood stars with demanding film schedules. These booming careers contributed to significant production delays for the final series.

In a prior interview with Coscarelli before the final episodes aired, Levinson admitted that he treats every season as if it were the end. When questioned about a potential fourth instalment, he expressed uncertainty, stating that his immediate plans simply involved spending time with his wife and children, reading Elmore Leonard novels and rewatching the classic film Mrs. Miniver.

The legacy of Euphoria

According to its official synopsis, Euphoria tracked a group of secondary school students navigating the complexities of drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love and friendship. The third series introduced a significant time jump where the characters grappled with concepts of faith, redemption and the nature of evil.

The star-studded ensemble cast featured Zendaya alongside Hunter Schafer, Eric Dane, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, Martha Kelly, Chloe Cherry, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Toby Wallace and Colman Domingo.

Sam Levinson helmed the project as creator and executive producer, working with a vast production team including Ashley Levinson, Sara E. White, Kevin Turen, Ravi Nandan, Drake, Adel «Future» Nur, Ron Leshem, Daphna Levin, Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein, Mirit Toovi, Tmira Yardeni, Yoram Mokady and Gary Lennon.
