Uzbekistan significantly increased rail freight shipments to China in the first quarter of 2026, underscoring the country’s growing role as a regional logistics hub and its efforts to strengthen trade connectivity across Eurasia.
According to official data, Uzbekistan dispatched 76 block trains to China via Kazakhstan’s Altynkol border crossing during the first three months of the year, reflecting expanding trade flows and rising demand for container transportation.
The growth comes as Tashkent continues to invest in transport infrastructure and promote new international trade corridors linking Central Asia with China, Europe and the Middle East. Uzbek officials have repeatedly emphasized the strategic importance of diversified transport routes for boosting exports and improving access to global markets.
Transport and logistics have become a key component of Uzbekistan’s economic development strategy. The government is pursuing major rail, road and aviation projects aimed at increasing cargo capacity and strengthening the country’s position as a transit hub between East and West.
Analysts say rising rail freight volumes highlight the growing importance of Uzbekistan’s transport sector as regional trade expands and businesses seek faster and more reliable logistics routes across Eurasia.
