Apple is preparing to launch two new smartwatch models this September but consumers hoping for a radical aesthetic overhaul will need to wait, Bloomberg reports.

According to a Bloomberg report detailing Apple’s wearable strategy the technology giant will unveil the Apple Watch Series 12 and the Apple Watch Ultra 4 this autumn. The entry-level SE model is not slated for an update during this product cycle.

Journalist Mark Gurman noted that the forthcoming devices will maintain the exterior styling of their predecessors. Instead engineers have prioritised internal enhancements aimed at boosting overall processing power which has remained largely stagnant since the Series 9 debuted in 2023.

«As I was told, neither watch will receive major design changes this year,» Gurman reported. «Apple is more focused on the internals: there will be improvements in health and fitness tracking, as well as a long-awaited boost in performance and chip speed.»

While the September lineup may appear familiar the company is reportedly developing a substantial physical and functional redesign for future iterations.

«I’ve heard that a more massive reimagining of the Apple Watch is in the works, but I wouldn’t expect it for a year or two,» Gurman added. «Additionally, the company is still working on introducing blood glucose monitoring, which should hit the market at the end of this decade, completing a project first conceived back in the days of Steve Jobs.»

Kursiv also reports that Apple has pushed the debut of its first smart glasses to late 2027 as the technology company refines its strategy to differentiate the wearable from rival products through stringent data protections.
