George Russell has announced his engagement to longtime partner Carmen Montero Mundt, revealing the news during Formula 1‘s summer break with photographs from a beachside proposal.
The 28-year-old Mercedes driver and Mundt shared the announcement in a joint Instagram post featuring images from the proposal and their engagement celebrations. The couple wore white in the photographs, while Mundt showed off an oval-cut yellow diamond ring.
The announcement came on August 9, with the couple keeping their caption brief: a ring emoji followed by a white heart. The proposal took place at a candlelit setting overlooking the beach.
A six-year relationship reaches its next stage
Russell and Mundt have been together since 2020 after meeting through a mutual friend in London. They have generally kept their relationship away from the spotlight, although Mundt has regularly appeared at races to support Russell during his F1 career.
Mundt, who is from Spain, moved to London at 18 to study business management and finance at the University of Westminster. She later moved into entrepreneurship and recently launched skincare brand Barriers.
Russell had already hinted at marriage earlier this year. In June, he described Mundt as his future and credited her with providing stability while he manages the demands of his racing career.
The yellow diamond becomes the centre of attention
The engagement ring has attracted almost as much attention as the announcement itself. It features a large yellow oval-cut centre diamond flanked by two triangular white diamonds.
Jewellery experts cited by IndulgeExpress estimated the centre stone at between 3.5 and 5 carats, although the exact size and value have not been confirmed. The report described the ring as a custom high-jewellery piece.
Mundt paired the ring with a white Cult Gaia Giuliana dress in the engagement photographs, which features floral detailing and an open back.
Russell’s engagement comes during a strong 2026 season for the Mercedes driver. He currently sits third in the Formula 1 drivers’ championship and has recorded two victories, five podium finishes and four pole positions this season.
The F1 season will resume at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort on August 23.
