Saida Mirziyoyeva to deliver first-ever UN speech for Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan’s presidential administration chief Saida Mirziyoyeva will deliver the national address at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday.
The appearance will put one of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s most senior officials on the United Nations’ main diplomatic podium a year after the president himself addressed world leaders there. Mirziyoyeva is due to speak at the general debate of the 81st General Assembly on 23 September, US time.
Mirziyoyeva has already arrived in New York, where she met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres ahead of the address.
«In this difficult time for the international system, I thank Mr Guterres for his robust global leadership and the support he gives to our country on all crucial security aspects,» she remarked.
The talks centred on cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN, with a current portfolio of 166 joint projects in the fields of healthcare, education, poverty reduction and environmental sustainability, worth $293 million, according to government data.

What to watch in Mirziyoeva’s UN address
It will not be the first time that Mirziyoyeva will appear at the UN headquarters. She addressed the UN Water Conference in 2023, highlighting the Aral Sea disaster and environmental threats.
This time, she will be speaking for Uzbekistan in the general debate of the General Assembly, not at a thematic UN conference.
No detailed agenda has been published for Mirziyoyeva’s speech. The wider General Assembly debate is taking place under the theme «Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all» and runs from 22 to 26 September, before ending on 28 September.

Back in 2025, President Mirziyoyev took the same podium to call for reform and expansion of the UN Security Council and to float international initiatives in education, healthcare and artificial intelligence.
