Apple‘s new HomeView smart home display starts at $299, offering facial recognition, an AI-powered Siri assistant and control over connected household devices. However, some of its most advanced features require a compatible iPhone or iPad.

The device features a 7-inch Liquid Retina touchscreen powered by Apple’s A18 chip. It can manage smart lights, locks, thermostats and security cameras while providing access to FaceTime, Messages, Apple Music and other services.

Pre-orders opened on October 13, with sales beginning November 13 in selected countries.

How to use HomeView’s new features

Personalised Siri AI

HomeView supports conversational Siri AI, allowing users to ask questions, manage reminders and control connected appliances through voice commands.

To unlock personalised requests, such as finding information in Messages or checking appointments in Calendar, users must pair HomeView with an Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software, with Siri AI enabled.

Facial recognition for six users

HomeView recognises up to six household members and automatically switches between their personalised home screens, apps and widgets.

Private information only appears when the registered user’s face is recognised and their paired iPhone or iPad is nearby and has recently been unlocked.

Smart home controls and security

Users can control compatible accessories through Siri or the touchscreen. The Home Camera interface displays up to nine live camera feeds simultaneously.

With compatible cameras and an eligible iCloud+ subscription, HomeView can also identify people, pets, vehicles and packages. AI-powered video summaries require an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad for setup.

Cooking, calls and entertainment

HomeView converts online recipes into step-by-step cooking instructions, supports hands-free timers and offers FaceTime calls with Center Stage.

Users can also transfer music from an iPhone using Handoff, listen through Spatial Audio speakers or use the display as a digital photo frame.

HomeView price, models and buying considerations

Apple offers two versions of HomeView, both priced at $299 in the US and £299 in the UK.

The tabletop model comes in silver, starlight, rose pink and space grey. It features a tilting display and a larger speaker system with a dedicated woofer.

The wall-mounted model comes in silver and space grey, with a slimmer audio system designed for wall placement.

Wall mounts are sold separately, starting at £54.95 in the UK.

Before purchasing, buyers should consider three limitations:

  • Device compatibility: An iPhone or iPad is required for initial setup. Advanced personalised AI features need an Apple Intelligence-compatible model.
  • Language restrictions: Siri AI currently supports English in selected countries. Other languages have limited or no support.
  • Regional availability: HomeView is initially available in eight markets, including the US, UK, India and Australia, with South Africa also receiving the device through authorised resellers. It is not launching in the European Union.

The company also says certain advanced AI capabilities are subject to daily usage limits, with expanded access expected to require payment in the future.

For buyers already using Apple Home-compatible devices, HomeView offers centralised control and personalised household features. Those primarily interested in Siri AI should check their existing device compatibility and language support before placing an order.
