US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor visited a local market with Saida Mirziyoyeva, head of Uzbekistan’s Presidential Administration, before travelling to historic Bukhara alongside regional officials on October 17.

Gor shared photographs of both visits on X, highlighting his return to Uzbekistan ahead of high-level diplomatic and business meetings between the two countries.

«Great to be back in Uzbekistan! Enjoyed visiting the local market with my friend @SMirziyoyeva,» Gor wrote.

The photographs show the two officials walking through a poultry section, with chickens and roosters displayed in cages. Gor did not identify the market or provide further details about the outing.

Later that day, Gor posted photographs from Bukhara, where he was accompanied by Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov and Bukhara regional governor Botir Zaripov.

«Wonderful to visit historic Bukhara today with @FM_Saidov and Governor Botir Zaripov. The United States values its partnership with Uzbekistan, and I look forward to taking our ties even further,» he wrote.

The photographs show Gor visiting the city’s historic centre, including the area around the Kalyan Minaret.

Discussions with the president

The visits followed Gor’s October 16 meeting with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent, where the two discussed preparations for US Secretary of State Marco Rubio‘s upcoming visit and further bilateral cooperation.

Their talks focused on strengthening strategic relations, expanding investment cooperation and preparing for upcoming diplomatic meetings.

Gor also announced that more than 250 American business leaders would begin arriving in Uzbekistan on October 17 to explore investment and commercial opportunities.

Gor and Saida Mirziyoyeva serve as co-chairs of the US-Uzbekistan Business and Investment Council, which aims to promote joint projects and strengthen economic ties.

The diplomatic programme comes ahead of discussions expected to address regional security, trade and investment cooperation between Washington and Central Asian countries.
