Jerry Fort, a 25-year-old Grand Theft Auto 6 fan who became known online for his wish to survive long enough to play the upcoming game, has died just three weeks before its scheduled release.

Fort, who used the name Void Only on TikTok, died on 29 October following complications from a serious lung condition which he had lived with since the age of 17. His sister announced his death in a video posted on his account on 2 November.

The young gamer gained widespread attention in August after posting a video from his hospital bed about his health problems and his hopes of playing GTA 6, which is scheduled for release on 19 November 2026.

By August, Fort’s health had deteriorated to the point that he needed a lung transplant. In his viral video, he explained that the operation would be especially complicated because his lungs had become attached to his chest wall.

«I just want to play GTA VI. Rockstar and their delays, man,» he wrote in the video’s caption.

GTA 6 community raises over $96,000 for treatment

Fort’s story attracted thousands of supporters, many of whom donated to a GoFundMe campaign organised by his mother, Paris Fort.

The fundraiser initially sought $15,000 to help cover transplant-related expenses, relocation and recovery costs. By early November, donations had exceeded $96,000, with approximately 5,000 contributions.

However, Fort’s condition worsened after he developed a severe infection. On 28 October, Fort reportedly told his relatives that he was ready to stop treatment. His health deteriorated further overnight, and he died the following day.

His sister thanked the gaming community for supporting him during his final months.

«Thank y’all for making his last few months beautiful,» she said in the video announcing her brother’s death.

Fort had also hoped to build an audience for his music, which he wanted to share with more people.
