Jenna Dewan said it felt like anyone could go home after the Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) Halloween double elimination. A week later, the Step Up star and partner Val Chmerkovskiy had four 10s for a quickstep she’d never danced before.

«I knew it could’ve been any of us,» Dewan told Entertainment Weekly after Tyler Cameron and Sharna Burgess went home alongside Jackson Olson and Emma Slater. Olson had just earned his highest score of the season, making the result all the more jarring for Dewan.

Dewan and Chmerkovskiy danced to ‘Be Our Guest’ from Beauty and the Beast on Disney Night. Guest judge Cynthia Erivo singled out Dewan’s split jump, while Derek Hough praised the routine as the kind of quickstep he wants to see.

«One of the hardest adjustments for me was holding my ballroom frame and staying connected to a partner,» Dewan said before the show. She’d spent much of her dance career performing solo, and using her shoulders came naturally to her.

Dewan and Chmerkovskiy picked up another perfect score in the team round, bringing their total to 80 out of 80. Julia Stiles and Ezra Sosa were eliminated, leaving seven couples to compete on Grammy Night on 10 November.

Harry Shum Jr matches Dewan’s 40 with a Mary Poppins routine

Harry Shum Jr and Jenna Johnson earned their second straight perfect 40 with a jazz routine to ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ from Mary Poppins. They joined Dewan on Team Wildcats for another 40, then won immunity for Grammy Night.

Ezra Frech and Daniella Karagach were next on the individual leaderboard, scoring 37 out of 40 for their ‘Under the Sea’ samba. Amber Glenn and Pasha Pashkov scored 34 for a Hercules quickstep, with Glenn taking the lead and drawing praise from judge Carrie Ann Inaba.
