iPhone karaoke: New Apple Music feature lets you watch yourself sing

Apple Music is introducing a new feature called Selfie Sing, allowing iPhone users to record themselves singing along to popular songs, edit their vocals and share the finished videos with friends.
The feature was discovered in the first beta version of iOS 27.3, released to developers on 3 November, according to MacRumors.
Selfie Sing builds on Apple Music’s existing karaoke feature, which lets listeners lower the original singer’s voice and follow lyrics on screen. The new mode adds the iPhone’s front-facing camera, allowing users to film themselves while singing.
Once the recording is complete, they can adjust the volume of their voice or apply different sound effects, including Megaphone, Echo, Concert Hall and Studio.
The finished video can then be saved to the Photos app or shared through messaging and social media platforms.
Apple has also created a dedicated playlist featuring songs suitable for karaoke, including Respect by Aretha Franklin, Wonderwall by Oasis, Like a Virgin by Madonna and …The song is «Baby One More Time» by Britney Spears.
The company describes the feature as a way for listeners to enjoy familiar songs without worrying about singing perfectly.
When will Apple Music’s Selfie Sing become available?
The new recording feature is currently limited to iPhones running the iOS 27.3 beta.
Although the Selfie Sing playlist already appears on devices using iOS 27.2, those users cannot activate the camera recording function.
To make a video, users select a supported song and tap the camera icon. Pressing the red recording button starts filming while the lyrics scroll across the screen.
Selfie Sing builds on Apple Music Sing, the karaoke feature introduced in December 2022 with iOS 16.2. That earlier version allowed listeners to lower the original singer’s vocals and follow synchronised lyrics.
The new mode adds video recording and voice effects, allowing users to create their own performances directly within the music app.
