While Aryna Sabalenka is typically seen dominating the court in athletic wear, the 28-year-old tennis champion has chosen a strikingly different look for her latest magazine appearance.
The current world number one and four-time Grand Slam winner swapped her racket for a high-fashion editorial, gracing the cover of Vogue in a daring sheer ensemble. Fans were quick to notice her bold style choice, as the athlete showcased her toned physique and golden tan in a bra top and a see-through skirt whilst posing on an oceanfront balcony.
Sabalenka’s new sparkler
Beyond her stunning photoshoot, Sabalenka used the feature to share some major personal news: she is officially engaged to Georgios Frangulis. Her new fiance is a Greek-Brazilian entrepreneur best known for founding Oakberry, a popular acai bowl franchise boasting over 800 locations across 50 countries.
The tennis star is now flashing a bespoke 12-carat oval diamond ring designed by Frangulis in collaboration with a jeweller friend. She recently joked about the impressive piece of jewellery during an Instagram segment with the «Broadcast Boys» influencer duo. When asked if the massive diamond was her specific request, the athlete laughed and replied that she actually asked for a 14-carat stone but received a 12.
Confronting the dark side of fame
The Vogue interview also took a more serious turn as Sabalenka candidly discussed the barrage of online abuse she regularly endures. She explained that with immense success and attention comes inevitable judgement regarding her appearance, her on-court grunting, her nationality and her personal life.
Although she tries to limit her scrolling, she occasionally spots cruel comments across platforms like Instagram, TikTok and Threads. Sabalenka noted the jarring contrast between the overwhelming support she feels in packed stadiums and the loud minority of internet trolls. She expressed disbelief at the nature of these attacks, pointing out that while some hide behind anonymous profiles, others are shockingly ordinary people.
The tennis star recalled clicking on profiles to find seemingly perfect mothers of three living conventional lives who had sent her messages wishing her death, hoping her family gets cancer or calling her vile names. Reflecting on this disturbing behaviour, she bluntly concluded that there is fundamentally something wrong with the planet today.
